Locomotion railway museum in County Durham has launched a new pop-up beach, supported by train company Lumo, as part of its summer festival. The attraction, which has previously hosted a spaceship and a world-record dance attempt, now offers a stretch of golden sands with deckchairs, buckets and spades, and seaside photo frames.
Free Family Fun
The museum, which opens daily, has no entry fee but invites donations. The beach is part of a six-week summer festival that includes activities based around engineering. Museum head Sarah Price said the festival "gets bigger and better every year" and that the pop-up beach is always a highlight.
Flying Scotsman Visit
From August 2-31, the world-famous Flying Scotsman will visit, offering rides from £5 and footplate experiences. Other festival treats include family activities, workshops, exhibitions, and displays of Lego models, railway engineering, and moving Meccano models.
Lumo Support
Lumo, which operates sustainable, fully-electric services and was recently ranked the UK’s top rail company for value for money, is supporting the beach. Richard Salkeld, its director of communications and partnership, said: “Locomotion is a brilliant North East attraction which offers an amazing, fun and free day out for all the family.”
