Newcastle City Council has announced that Pets' Corner in Jesmond will be closed Monday to Friday for around 10 weeks while essential maintenance and improvements are carried out.
The attraction, located in Jesmond Dene, is home to goats, sheep, peacocks, rabbits and a variety of birds, alongside a visitor centre and a play area for young children.
Habitat improvements and new arrival
During the closure, work will include enhancing the enclosures for rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as preparing a brand-new space for an exciting new arrival next year.
The council has confirmed that the animals will be safely relocated to temporary enclosures and will continue to be well cared for throughout the work.
Weekend opening and visitor information
Visitors will still be able to enjoy Pets' Corner at weekends over the coming weeks, as the closure applies only on weekdays.
Announcing the news, Newcastle City Council said: "Exciting changes are underway at one of Jesmond Dene's most loved attractions. From today (Monday 12 October), Pets Corner will be closed Monday to Friday for around 10 weeks while we carry out essential maintenance and make improvements to the animal habitats."
The council added: "We’ll be enhancing the enclosures for our rabbits and guinea pigs, and preparing a brand-new space for an exciting new arrival next year. The animals will be safely relocated to temporary enclosures and will continue to be well cared for throughout the work."
The work is described as the latest in a series of improvements to Pets' Corner, with more new arrivals and visitor experiences coming soon. Entry to Pets' Corner is free, though visitors can make a donation to support the venue if they wish.
