World Cup pundit apologises for racist comments on Serbian TV

Rade Bogdanovic, a former Atletico Madrid striker, has apologised after making racist comments live on Serbian television during the World Cup. The remarks, made while covering Belgium's goalless draw with Iran on Sunday, drew immediate widespread condemnation.

What Was Said

Discussing Nathan Ngoy's red card in the 66th minute, Bogdanovic said on RTS: "I have always said those players – and I’m really not racist – but Black players lack the concentration to last more than 60 to 80 minutes. When we played, we sometimes had to protect our own players to stop them making mistakes." Ngoy was sent off for a last-man foul on Mehdi Taremi.

Apology Issued

Following the backlash, Bogdanovic released a statement apologising for his comments. He acknowledged the hurt caused and expressed regret for his words. The Serbian broadcaster RTS has not yet commented on whether further action will be taken.
