Vladimir Putin has been compared to Jesus Christ by a Russian propaganda chief, despite more than half-a-million deaths in the Ukraine war he started in 2022. Margarita Simonyan, head of RT television and nicknamed 'Goebbels in a skirt', made the bizarre claim, stating that the Russian president is a 'very merciful man'.
Propaganda Chief's Controversial Statement
Simonyan said: 'Vladimir Putin is a man who is incredibly developed in a trait that I consider the most important for a person. He has it at a level close to the high standards Jesus Christ bequeathed us. This trait is called mercy. Vladimir [Putin] is a very merciful man. Very much so.'
Context of the War
The extraordinary comparison comes as Russia faces a series of setbacks in the war, with Ukraine's domestically-developed missiles and drones causing significant damage to Putin's war machine. The conflict, which began in February 2022, has resulted in over 500,000 casualties, according to estimates.
