A woman with a limp says an “entitled” mum missed her flight after demanding she give up her priority seat on a train.
The woman, who struggles to move quickly, explained that she usually takes a priority seat on her daily train journey home because it makes getting on and off easier. She noted that there is currently a surge in tourists and airport-bound travellers owing to it being “holiday season” in her German town, and “every day” she witnesses passengers intending to catch a flight who accidentally board “the rear part of the train towards the suburbs by mistake”.
Train splits into two sections
Her train stays together for most of the route before splitting into two sections towards the end of the journey. One heads to the airport, while the other continues towards residential suburbs. Airport-bound passengers therefore need to be in the correct section before the train divides - a detail that would prove crucial for the family.
On Reddit, she explained: “I usually help those people out and tell them when they can best change to get into the front part of the train to the airport. You can easily spot them with a big suitcase looking a bit out of place. I have a bit of a limp on [my] right leg so I'm pretty slow and usually sit in the disabled seat, makes it easier for me to get in and out of the train.”
Demand for the priority seat
She revealed that recently, an “entitled family” made up of a mother, father, two children and a grandmother boarded the train with their luggage and “started arguing about if the train goes to the airport or not”, with the mother “being very sure” it did — but she was wrong, and they were in fact in the wrong carriage. As the family began searching for seats, the mother marched over to the woman and demanded she make room for them, declaring she “should not be sitting there”.
The woman went on: “To be honest, I would have made room for them anyways, but I only smiled at them and got up without another word, but Mom was not done yet. Telling me off how rude I am and that I should look out for people who actually need those spots lol.”
Karma on the train
Not all disabilities are visible, but the father did clock the woman's limp and suggested she's “probably disabled”, yet the mother simply shot her a look of “sour grapes, just very much [an] insincere apology.” The woman, however, had the final say. She disclosed: “I was staying quiet towards them, moving a couple seats over and watching with somewhat malicious delight as they realised they were in the wrong part of the train and missed the last station to switch over.”
In the headline of her post, she explained the “entitled” mum “missed her flight” after “demanding” her disabled seat. Other Reddit users weighed in with their reactions and views. One commenter simply wrote: “Karma.” Another agreed: “Not only that; OP [original poster] allowed Karma to run its course. Much like the train. And their flight.” A third contributor joked: “A first-class ticket to poetic justice, courtesy of the universe's timetable.”
