Billie Eilish Urges Billionaires to Donate, Pledges $11.5m to Climate Fight

Billie Eilish has called on billionaires to give away their fortunes, as she announced a $11.5 million donation from her recent world tour to climate initiatives. The singer made the plea while accepting the 'Music Innovator Award' at the Wall Street Journal's Innovator Awards on Wednesday, where the audience included tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and George Lucas.

Speaking at the event, Eilish said: 'We live in a time where the world is really, really dark,' and urged wealthy individuals to use their money 'for good things and maybe give it to some people that need it.' She added: 'And, if you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away.'

The $11.5 million pledge will go to The Changemaker Program, an initiative focusing on climate justice, food equity, and reducing carbon pollution. A spokeswoman for Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, who were also being honoured at the awards, told The Independent that the couple have donated $7 billion so far and have pledged to give away 99% of their Meta shares over their lifetime.
