Climate campaigners have launched a bold protest ahead of the COP28 summit, covering government buildings across the UK with satirical posters that mock the country's environmental record.
The activists from the group Brandalism targeted key sites including the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in London, where they pasted up large posters declaring the UK's climate policies as 'very embarrassing'.
Satirical Campaign Targets Government Inaction
The eye-catching posters feature a red-faced Rishi Sunak alongside the caption: 'The UK used to be a climate leader... now we're very embarrassing.' Other designs parody government U-turns on green policies.
One activist told reporters: 'We're holding up a mirror to the government's failures as they prepare to lecture other nations at COP28. Their backtracking on climate commitments is shameful.'
Key Buildings Targeted
The overnight operation saw posters appear at:
- The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
- Transport for London headquarters
- Major government buildings in Birmingham and Manchester
The timing is particularly pointed, coming just days before world leaders gather in Dubai for the crucial COP28 climate summit.
Government Response
A government spokesperson defended their record, stating: 'The UK has cut emissions faster than any other G7 country. We remain committed to our net zero targets while taking a pragmatic approach that saves families money.'
However, environmental groups argue recent policy reversals on fossil fuels and green initiatives have damaged Britain's international credibility on climate issues.
