Tim Curry has provided a rare update on his health, revealing that he still faces significant challenges following a stroke in 2012. The 79-year-old actor, best known for his iconic role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, made the comments at a special screening celebrating the film's 50th anniversary at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles.
Curry, who uses a wheelchair, told the audience: 'I still can't walk, which is why I'm in this silly chair, and that's very limiting. I still have real problems with my left leg.' He also recounted the moment of his stroke, explaining that he was receiving a massage and did not realise anything was wrong until the masseur insisted on calling an ambulance.
Despite his health issues, Curry displayed his characteristic humour, yawning and quipping: 'It's awfully late, isn't it? Why don't we show the pic?' He also spoke proudly of the film's enduring appeal within the LGBTQ+ community, saying: 'I think the message of the film — don't dream it, be it — is very important.'
Curry's stroke was kept private for nearly a year before his representative confirmed it in May 2013. Since then, he has focused on voice acting, lending his distinctive voice to projects such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the 2016 Rocky Horror remake. He also made a rare public appearance in 2015 to receive a lifetime achievement award.
The actor's appearance at the anniversary event was met with a standing ovation from the sold-out, costumed crowd. Curry, who also played Pennywise in the 1990 TV adaptation of Stephen King's It, continues to inspire fans with his resilience and wit.
