The Archers Fans Control Storyline in Live Shows

The Archers legend Timothy Bentinck, who has portrayed David Archer for over four decades, has revealed that fans will have the opportunity to control the narrative during the upcoming live shows. In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, the actor shared details about the interactive nature of the performances.

Celebrating 75 Years of The Archers

Timothy Bentinck is embarking on a UK tour with the iconic BBC Radio 4 cast to celebrate the series' 75th anniversary. Having been part of the production for nearly 45 years, he expressed his excitement about bringing the interactive shows to fans across the country. The Archers: Live at 75 is a brand-new live theatre show that combines specially written live episodes, behind-the-scenes stories, archive material, audience Q&As, and a fascinating look at how the programme's distinctive sound effects are created in real time.

An Iconic Part of British Society

During the chat, Timothy said: "It’s been amazing, during [my time on the show] I've realised what an iconic thing it is. It’s part of the fabric of British society. It’s been going for 75 years, it’s the longest running drama series of any type anywhere in the world and it has about five million listeners every day." He added: "On every day in the evening, repeated the next day at lunchtime, then an omnibus on the Sunday. The people who listen to it think of it as their family, that’s what we are. When we’re doing this tour it gives the opportunity to meet the people who we never see."

Interactive Elements for Fans

Timothy promised that fans will have some serious input while watching the live shows: "The lovely thing about this show is that it’s very interactive. We’ve got some machinery, some interface that allows them [the audience] to vote and ask questions, things like that. There will be lots of interaction with the audience. It’s not just us prancing around on stage, we’ll be talking to the audience, interacting with them. I think it’s going to be a really exciting evening!"
