Stockport Pub Named Best for Families Finalist at Awards

A pub in Stockport is celebrating after making the final of a prestigious awards contest. Puss in Boots, in Offerton, has been named a Best Pub for Families finalist at the Great British Pub Awards 2026, one of the most respected accolades in the UK hospitality industry.

The recognition comes just weeks after the much-loved pub, widely regarded as 'a gem' by families, reopened following a £400k refurbishment after a joint investment from Almond Family Pubs and Robinsons Brewery.

Each year, hundreds of pubs from across the country enter the Great British Pub Awards, organised by The Morning Advertiser, putting themselves through a rigorous judging process designed to recognise excellence, atmosphere and outstanding performance.

Following two rounds of judging, the Offerton local, where customers can also dine in the beer garden, has been named one of just six finalists in the Best Pub for Families category, and the only pub in the North West to make that shortlist.

James Almond, director at Almond Family Pubs, said: "We're absolutely delighted to see the Puss in Boots shortlisted for Best Pub for Families. To be recognised on a national stage, and as the only finalist in the category from the North West, is a real credit to Nick and the whole team. The Puss is a community pub Offerton can truly be proud of, somewhere families of every age feel welcome. To see that recognised so soon after reopening means a great deal to us."

Nick Bateson, co-general manager alongside newly appointed Naomi Proudfoot, said: "I couldn't be prouder of the team. We've always been a proper family pub, and that's never changed. This nomination belongs to our regulars and their families as much as it does to us."

In May, the Nangreave Road venue, where dogs are allowed except on Sundays, unveiled its brand-new look as well as launching a new summer menu. Working with architects Fusion by Design, the refurbishment set out to keep the traditional character of the pub while giving it a 'more elevated, modern feel', with soft lighting and layered textures. The transformation also included warm panelling, luxurious seating and a refreshed bar area featuring antique mirrors, brass fittings, and rich finishes.

On top of the fresh summer menu, it serves traditional pub classics, a daily carvery and a popular children's menu. The Great British Pub Awards 2026 winners will be announced at a ceremony at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on September 23.

Other finalists in the Best Pub for Families category are: The Plough in Prestbury, Cheltenham; The Old Thatch in Wimborne, Dorset; Almondsbury Creative in Almondsbury, Bristol; The Jolly Sailors in Pakefield, Lowestoft; and Clissold Arms Pub in East Finchley, London.
