Springwatch viewers were left emotional after presenter Chris Packham made a surprise announcement at the start of Thursday's episode. The BBC series, hosted by Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan, returned for its final instalment of 2026, broadcasting live from the National Trust's Crom estate in Northern Ireland.

Introducing the programme, Chris revealed that it would be the last episode of this year's run. He said: "Welcome to the final programme of Springwatch 2026, coming to you from the ever picturesque estate here at Crom in Northern Ireland. It's the last of our run but we've got some great stuff coming up."
Viewers React
Fans quickly took to social media to express their disappointment. One viewer wrote: "Last Springwatch which is sad, but it has been fantastic as always." Another commented: "I am sad that Springwatch ends tonight, but glad that I will get to see it." A third added: "Final #Springwatch of the year. A really enjoyable three weeks of TV, but like the English summer it's over in no time!"
Some fans were particularly emotional. One said: "I always feel sad and quite bereft when Springwatch ends but, this year, I'm quite emotional! Combination of how I'm feeling and the horrors in the world; it's been an oasis of nature for three weeks." Another wrote: "I'll miss you!"
Looking Forward
Although the series has concluded, Michaela Strachan encouraged viewers to follow Springwatch on social media for more wildlife content over the next two weeks. She said: "That brings us to the end of the three weeks. It always goes so quickly, doesn't it? We have had such a great time here in Northern Ireland. We'd like to say a big thank you to National Trust Crom Estate for hosting us and a big thanks to all the staff and volunteers for making us feel so welcome."
Chris added: "And to all of you for joining in, sending us all of your videos, all of your photographs, some of which have been absolutely sensational. Whilst we're off air, remember you can stay engaged with Facebook and Instagram."
The episode concluded with a montage of highlights from the past three weeks, as Chris declared: "It's goodbye from Crom. See you soon, but in the meantime, have a look at this." Springwatch is available on BBC iPlayer.
