This weekend marks the start of one of Manchester's most popular concert series. Tonight sees the return of Sounds of the City festival right here in the city centre. The open-air gig series takes place every year at Castlefield Bowl near Deansgate and features a host of big names in music. Previous acts have included Sam Fender, Pulp, The Libertines and Avril Lavigne.
2026 Lineup and Schedule
This year, alongside North West favourites The K's and the Smiths' legend Johnny Marr, there will be two back-to-back shows from The Streets, as well as the return of Haçienda Classical - a show which always brings the party to Castlefield Bowl. Wet Leg and The Sex Pistols featuring Frank Turner will also be performing. The series of gigs will run from Friday, July 3 with the K's until July 12 with the Sex Pistols. Unfortunately, beloved 90s band Puressence, who were scheduled to kick off the series, will no longer be performing on July 2 due to 'unforeseen circumstances', according to organisers.
Ticket Availability and Door Times
There are a limited number of tickets for some events still available via the Sounds of the City website and Ticketmaster. Doors for most gigs open at 5.30pm, with some shows opening earlier at 5pm. Organisers advise arriving early to avoid missing the start.
Food and Drink
A number of food vendors and bars are available at Castlefield Bowl, with prices varying by vendor. Confirmed vendors include The Hash (loaded hash browns), Lucky Gyros (gyros and box meals), and South Many Flavaz (Southern fried chicken burgers and tenders).
