Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) finally confronts Gary Windass (Mikey North) with irrefutable proof that he lied about his whereabouts on the night of Theo Silverton’s murder, leading her to declare their relationship is over in next week’s Coronation Street.
Maria Discovers Gary’s Lie
The explosive revelation comes after Maria learns from Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) that Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) announced Gary was to be arrested imminently. Panicked, Maria confronts Gary, but he tries to reassure her. However, the next day at work, while doing Sally Metcalfe’s (Sally Dynevor) hair, Maria spots a screensaver photo from the night of the wedding. The picture clearly shows Gary out on the street on the night of Theo’s murder, contradicting his claim that he spent the night in the builder’s yard.
Maria has Sally send her the photo and confronts Gary at home. Realising she has him bang to rights, Gary knows the alibi she provided is false, putting them both in legal jeopardy.
Relationship at Breaking Point
Earlier, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) bashed Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) over the head, sending him tumbling to his death. She summoned Gary to help deal with the aftermath, leading to secret meetings that aroused Maria’s suspicion. Maria provided Gary with a false alibi, but the strain has left her feeling sad, confused, hurt, and vengeful. A disastrous dinner party pushed Gary and Maria to breaking point.
Sarah’s partner, copper Kit Green, was convinced Sarah was having an affair with Gary. Sarah later admitted her guilt to Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who declared their relationship dead, and to Kit, who was in the process of proposing – possibly the worst response to a marriage proposal in soap history.
Maria’s Decision
The next day, Maria puts on a brave face when their sons Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) and Jake Windass (Bobby Bradshaw) go out for a kickabout. The family teases Gary light-heartedly, but once alone, Maria’s expression falls. Gary tries to reassure her there will be no comeback, but Maria is incredulous. “Can’t he see that they’ve already been destroyed by all of this? Their relationship is broken, and she simply can’t see a way back for them,” according to a source.
Meanwhile, Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) hauls Sarah in for questioning and charges her with murder. Maria fears the police will release Sarah and come for Gary instead. With the photo evidence proving her alibi was false, Maria faces serious legal consequences. The question remains: is this the end for Gary and Maria?
