Coronation Street fans believe Kevin Webster could be about to rekindle his romance with Abi Franklin, nearly a year after their separation, following a family tragedy involving her young son Alfie. The mechanic, played by Michael Le Vell since 1983, has been central to many of the soap's biggest storylines, including his tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Sally and their daughters Rosie and Sophie.
Past Relationship Turmoil
Kevin and Sally ended their marriage in 2010 after Kevin's affair with Molly Dobbs. While they have remained on relatively good terms, Sally later married Tim Metcalfe, and Kevin wed Abi Franklin in 2021. However, their marriage fell apart when Carl Webster arrived, initially thought to be Kevin's long-lost brother but revealed as his long-lost nephew, who had an affair with Abi.
Current Crisis: Alfie's Health Scare
In the latest episode, Abi faced a terrifying ordeal when her young son Alfie, the product of her affair with the late Imran Habeeb, was rushed to the hospital due to severe respiratory issues caused by mould in her flat. A doctor informed Abi that the infection indicated something seriously wrong, prompting her to turn to Kevin for comfort. Through tears, she said: "It means it's not just an infection. There's something really wrong. I'm going to lose him!"
Landlord Idris Takes Action
Abi's landlord, Idris Sharma, cousin of established character Alya, took matters into his own hands after learning the mould had hospitalized Alfie. He recruited teenager Brody Michaelis, whom he had taken under his wing, to kidnap a man named Isaac, who was responsible for the mould issue. Idris told Isaac: "You put a kid in hospital. I don't let people live like animals. Thanks to you, I'm the bad guy." Brody later expressed second thoughts about working for Idris, but the landlord continued to pressure him.
Viewer Predictions
Reacting to the dramatic scenes, viewers predicted that Abi, who lost her son Seb in an unprovoked attack and has other children in the care system, will reunite with Kevin. One fan on X said: "Honestly, with Kev and Abi being on good terms I’m surprised she hasn’t moved back in with him. Abi can’t lose another kid ffs!" Another commented: "The fact it's been 9 months and Abi still hasn't changed her name back to Franklin, and now they are having her move back into number 13 with Kev and Carl supporting her.
