Kevin O'Sullivan Lashes Out at Police Handling of Ann Widdecombe Murder Investigation
TalkTV presenter Kevin O'Sullivan has fiercely criticised Devon and Cornwall Police over their handling of the murder investigation into former Reform UK spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe. The 77-year-old was found dead at her home in Devon on Thursday, July 9, with serious injuries. Initially, police stated there was no evidence of political or terrorist motivation. However, the case was subsequently transferred to Counter Terrorism Policing after new information emerged.
During his TalkTV show, O'Sullivan expressed fury at the police's public statements. He said: "Don't tell us not to speculate, of course we will speculate in the pub, chatting with our families and friends. But don't say that when you don't know! They clearly had no idea if it was politically motivated or if it was terrorism."
Broadcaster Accuses Police of Treating Public Like Children
O'Sullivan condemned the police for what he described as a patronising attitude. He said: "It sounds outrageous, we are not children." He directed his ire at what he called "top cops, the woke chief constables and the senior officers who have taken a political line to keep peace in the country."
The presenter also launched an attack on left-leaning commentators, accusing them of "dancing on Ann Widdecombe's grave." He said: "Some of the left-leaning people were just extraordinary. They are so vicious and vile, dancing on Ann Widdecombe's grave. They have a go at Reform UK, Nigel Farage. They've got their problems at the moment, they are on the front pages for different reasons."
O'Sullivan Slams Left-Wing Critics for Using Tragedy
O'Sullivan accused left-wing figures of using Widdecombe's death to deflect from their own issues. He said: "But these lefties are saying Nigel Farage is using this tragedy. Yeah, it's come in handy, this tragedy, this slaughter of Ann Widdecombe. Because they can deflect from their own problems, they are using it to get their problems off the front page. But what a disgusting thing to say. Why would you criticise that human decency? Really, it's disgusting."
Social Media Divided Over O'Sullivan's Remarks
Social media users expressed mixed reactions. One person commented: "You have no idea how a police investigation works." Another wrote: "So when people like you complained the police didn't release enough information in previous incidents, you now complain they were too transparent by saying they didn't currently know?"
Laurence Taylor, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, stated: "We now have new information and evidence that means Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation... We are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to establish the motivation for this attack."
