I Met My Husband in the Dull Men's Club – Now We Enjoy a Simple Life Together
I Met My Husband in the Dull Men's Club

Lili Mallatratt, a US resident, met her husband Luke through the Dull Men's Club, a Facebook group now called Banana for Scale. The group celebrates ordinary life with dry humour, and Lili was drawn to its mindset of contentment without extravagance.

How They Met

In late 2023, Lili joined the group and later a chat where Luke mentioned ironing T-shirts and keeping a strict budget. They bonded over simplicity, which balanced Lili's chaotic upbringing. After two months of daily calls, Luke flew from the UK to the US to meet her.

From Hospital to Marriage

Before Luke's first visit, Lili had emergency surgery. Luke came straight to the hospital and stayed for five days on a futon. Lili recalls, 'I was amazed by how supportive he was. He never left my side.' She knew then she wanted to marry him.

They got engaged three months later and married in September 2024 in the Great Smoky Mountains. Their vows included a nod to the Facebook algorithm that brought them together. A group member calculated they lived 38 million bananas apart.

A Dull but Happy Life

Luke moved into Lili's home with her children. 'We just exist together – no fuss, no stress, no anxiety,' she says. They enjoy travel and concerts but find joy in simplicity. As Lili puts it, 'It’s just nice being dull together.'
