Merseybay has returned to Stockport town centre for summer 2026, offering a free beach experience during the school holidays. The pop-up attraction features golden sand, beach huts, deckchairs, and beach toys. It launched on July 25 and is open for families to enjoy without travelling to the coast.
Superhero-themed Tuesdays
Throughout August, every Tuesday brings superhero-themed activities. On August 4, families can meet Spider Hero and Spider Ghoul, followed by a free craft session to make a superhero keyring. August 11 features Superhero Girl and Bat Hero, with children designing their own superhero kite. On August 18, Green Giant and Rock Man appear for photos, and kids can join a stationery hunt trail around the shopping centre.
The season ends with a Superhero Academy Party on August 25, including superhero appearances, interactive entertainment, and surprises. Alongside free beach fun, visitors can buy seaside snacks and drinks. Paid attractions like the Helter Skelter and surf simulator are also available.
Community tradition
Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager at Merseyway, said: “Merseybay brings thousands of families together during the school summer holidays and it’s become a real tradition for so many people across Stockport and beyond. This year, we’re inviting everyone to unleash their inner superhero with free activities every Tuesday.”
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills at Stockport Council, added: “Merseybay has become a much-loved part of summer in Stockport, giving families a free and affordable way to enjoy the holidays in the heart of the town centre. This year’s superhero-themed beach is set to bring even more fun, helping to create lasting memories for local families while supporting our town centre businesses.”
