Emmerdale newcomer Serena Sugden, played by West End star Casey Al-Shaqsy, is set to face intensified scrutiny next week as her true motivations come under fire from Moira Dingle. Since arriving in the village last month, Serena has raised eyebrows with her probing questions about her serial killer cousin, John Sugden.
Serena's Suspicious Behaviour
Serena, a member of the Sugden family whose grandfather was a cousin of Robert Sugden's father Jack, initially claimed to be homeless and unemployed, seeking help from relatives. She was taken in by Sarah Sugden and given shifts as a barmaid at The Woolpack by Charity Dingle after confiding about her struggles.
However, Serena has since been fishing for information about John Sugden, Robert's half-brother, who murdered Nate Robinson, left Mackenzie Boyd for dead, attempted to kill Robert, and placed his former fiancé Aidan Moore in a coma. John's crimes were exposed when he took his estranged husband Aaron Dingle hostage before being fatally confronted by his half-sister Victoria Sugden, who acted in self-defence.
Probing Questions Raise Alarm
In a recent conversation with Claudette Anderson, Serena asked whether Claudette knew John was a murderer and inquired about his conduct at work. When Claudette grew wary, Serena explained: "Interesting, finding out your cousin is a legit murderer, I want to fill in the gaps."
Next week, according to spoilers, Serena probes for details about Nate's murder, prompting Moira Dingle to make her distrust abundantly clear. The synopsis teases: "Serena will find herself at the heart of the drama when she is drawn into the aftermath of a character's traumatic situation, finding herself conflicted about what she has become involved in. Soon, her presence raises questions about her true motivations for settling in the Dales and where her loyalties ultimately lie."
Producer's Comments on Serena's Role
Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw commented: "The Sugdens are a core part of the Emmerdale fabric, and we are thrilled to welcome Casey to the family. Her character will be at the heart of some extremely gripping and unexpected storylines, forcing her to make difficult choices that will have dramatic consequences for some of the village's biggest names."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
