Emmerdale Fans Identify Cafe Robber, Not Kev Townsend

Emmerdale viewers are convinced they have identified the culprit behind the cafe robbery, and it is not fan-favourite Kev Townsend. The ITV soap aired scenes on Wednesday, July 8, showing a hooded figure ransacking the local cafe, stealing money and causing chaos. While Kev, played by Chris Coghill, might seem the obvious suspect given his past, fans on Reddit have pointed to other characters.

Kev's Return and New Business Venture

Kev Townsend returned to Emmerdale last month after being tracked down by Ross Barton. He was selling his famous lemon drizzle cake from a van when Ross pleaded for his help to rescue Lewis Barton, Kev's biological son, who had been kidnapped by Kev's ex-partner, Kylie. Kev agreed and later revealed his paternity to Lewis, shocking both Lewis and Vinny Dingle.

Since then, Kev has been working to build a relationship with Lewis. On Wednesday, he made a grand gesture by changing his surname to Barton so Lewis would not be associated with the Townsend name. This development displeased Nicola King, who watched on disapprovingly.

Fans Speculate on the Real Culprit

As the episode ended, a hooded figure was shown trashing the cafe. Despite Kev's history, fans suspect either Nicola or Ross of framing him. On a Reddit thread, user environmentaltotal8147 wrote: "I wonder who is it that broke into the Cafe, I guess it's Ross framing Kev? Although probably could easily be Nicola as well, don't think it's Jimmy."

Another user, soapfan85, agreed: "I don't think it's Kev either too obvious, unless he's double bluffing? My bet is Nicola or maybe Mack trying to make it look like it's Ross to cause more drama."

Kev's History in the Village

Kev first appeared as Robert Sugden's prison husband, described as "unpredictable and intimidating." He quickly became a fan favourite despite his manipulative past, including marrying Robert under false pretences. His recent return has stirred up trouble, but viewers believe the cafe robbery may be a setup.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
