Emotional Performance by Brass Band

The Easington Colliery Brass Band, known for performing with Sam Fender on his hit "Remember My Name" and at St James' Park, marched into the venue to perform one of the musical's most moving numbers. The band's appearance brought a tear to the eye of many attendees, according to reports.

Billy Elliot's Enduring Legacy

First released as a film in 2000, Billy Elliot became an Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning success. Set against the backdrop of the miners' strike, it tells the story of a boy who swaps boxing for ballet. The stage adaptation, which premiered in 2005, won Olivier and Tony awards and has been a hit in the West End and Broadway.

Tour Kicks Off in Sunderland

The new limited tour begins at the Sunderland Empire from November 4 to 28, 2026. The venue currently hosts Moulin Rouge and previously staged Billy Elliot in 2016. Elton John, who wrote the music for the musical, spoke about the story's enduring resonance during the launch.
