Ellidy Pullin has spoken publicly for the first time about her new relationship with contractor Brock Wadsworth, five years after the tragic death of her partner, Winter Olympian Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin.
A Bittersweet New Chapter
The 33-year-old, who lost Chumpy in a devastating spearfishing accident on the Gold Coast in July 2020, confessed to experiencing a complex mix of joy and guilt about her new romance with the 31-year-old Wadsworth. Speaking candidly on her LiSTNR podcast, Darling, Shine!, Ellidy described her current emotions.
"I'm just so happy right now, and I'm really enjoying the feelings and the emotions and falling in love with Brock and having this new love," she said. "I feel guilty saying that because, obviously, there was so many times where I just thought it would just be Chump and I forever."
She emphasised that moving forward was not a decision made lightly. "It would have been, but he passed away… I'm young, I'm never going to be alone forever. I didn't make a rash decision. I sat on this for pretty much a whole year, and I'm really stoked with where I am with him right now."
From Friendship to Romance
Ellidy revealed that she and Brock first met several years ago at a golf day and maintained a friendship since. She highlighted how seamlessly he has integrated into her life and social circle, which includes many mutual connections from their shared home on the Gold Coast.
"What I started noticing in my life, Brock just slots in so easily and he already basically knows everyone," she explained. "He's grown up on the Gold Coast…I've known him and his family forever [and he] just slots in really easily."
Reflecting on her capacity to love again, Ellidy shared a poignant realisation: "I will always love Chumpy but I've 'realised your heart can grow'. I just never really imagined what my next relationship would look like or who that person would be. But I just didn't really think it was going to be like this, and it just really took me by surprise."
Looking to the Future
The relationship became public knowledge last month when Brock Wadsworth made their romance official on his Instagram Stories, sharing a passionate kiss with Ellidy during a trip to Bali. The couple were on the Indonesian island celebrating DJ Paul Fisher’s 40th birthday; Fisher's wife, Chloe, is Ellidy's best friend and podcast co-host.
Ellidy's journey over the past five years has been marked by profound loss and resilience. Chumpy drowned on July 8, 2020, at the age of 32. In 2021, Ellidy gave birth to their daughter, Minnie, now four, who was conceived through posthumous sperm retrieval following her father's sudden death.
Ellidy and Chumpy had been together for eight years prior to the accident. Although they never married, Ellidy chose to honour him by legally taking his surname, Pullin. Her new relationship with Brock Wadsworth marks a significant and heartfelt new beginning, woven with enduring love for the past.
