Dept Q Season 2: New Cast, Filming Start, Plot Tease

Netflix has confirmed that production on Dept Q Season 2 is officially underway, bringing a major cast update for the Edinburgh-set crime thriller. The series, based on Jussi Adler-Olsen's novels, premiered in May 2025 and quickly rose up the Netflix charts, earning critical acclaim and a swift renewal in August.

Plot and Setting

The new season will again be filmed and set in Edinburgh. The synopsis teases: "DCI Carl Morck heads up the maverick Dept. Q from the basement of an Edinburgh police station, charged with cases previously deemed unsolvable. This darkly humorous, propulsive show delivers all the pleasures of a procedural but takes us into the complex mysteries not just of the cases but of the detectives themselves."

Executive Producer Rob Bullock revealed: "This season, Carl and his band of misfits tackle a terrible crime hidden in the highest echelons of Scottish society. It is a story for our times: rich and powerful people who believe they are above the law. Carl, of course, knows otherwise."
