Lili Myers, widow of Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers, has opened up about the final Dave Day ride and teased a new project to honour his memory. The television personality died in February 2024 at age 66 after a battle with cancer. Thousands of motorcyclists paid tribute by riding from London to his hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, in an event known as Dave Day.
Final Ride and Fundraising Success
The gathering first took place in 2025 and concluded last weekend with a final journey, which Lili described as "The Last Ride Home." Appearing on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday, June 23, she called the event "surreal." She said: "When we started organising this third one, we had no idea how many people would join, what would happen. We just said let's just go with it and have fun." She added that approximately 40,000 motorbikes participated, raising around £125,000 for cancer charities.
Future Plans and Emotional Impact
When host Lorraine Kelly suggested that the thousands of bikers might not let the event end, Lili responded: "I doubt that. There's going to be something in a different format that we are still discussing. But all these people, they were inspired by him. He had so much energy and zest for life, people related to him on so many levels."
Earlier in the week, Lili spoke to BBC Breakfast about the emotional significance of the ride. She said: "Dave Day has been such a revelation for me. I don't remember much about the first year of bereavement. It's kind of a mist. I only remember snippets of that year. But Dave Day gave me something that was solid." She highlighted the support from the biking community and Barrow residents, adding: "I didn't feel on my own."
A Legacy of Unity
Lili reflected on the ride's broader impact, stating: "In my opinion, we've just united the southern part of the country with the northern part of the country through the snaking motorbikes on the motorways. It's amazing what this man is doing even after he's passed."
