Kit becomes anxious when Sarah cancels their shopping trip. After Brody Michaelis teases that Sarah has a better offer, Maria overhears and panics. Spotting Sarah leaving the builders' yard, Kit invites Summer, Todd, Gary, and Maria to dinner that night. Despite Gary and Sarah's tension, Maria accepts eagerly. During the meal, Maria makes vicious remarks at Sarah, while Kit tries to isolate Gary, accusing him of lying. As the main course is served, Maria finally reveals the affair between Gary and Sarah, leaving everyone stunned. Flashbacks show the evening ending in bloodshed, with the murderer exposed.
Elsewhere, Ronnie Bailey fails to convince Fiona Morley that he doesn't know where the gun is. She refuses his cash offer but suggests another way to pay her off. Ronnie later tells Debbie and Carl Webster that the problem is solved. Meanwhile, Sam Blakeman's loss in a chess game to Roy Cropper worries his father Nick.
