Mollie Gallagher has departed Coronation Street after nearly seven years in the role of Nina Lucas, with the actress already securing her next role as Clarice Starling in the UK and Ireland tour of The Silence of the Lambs.
Character Introduction and Storylines
Nina Lucas was introduced in 2019 when Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, discovered he had a long-lost brother named Richard and a niece named Nina. Following Richard's death, Nina moved in with Roy on the cobbles and began working at the iconic Roy's Rolls cafe, becoming a beloved fixture of the ITV soap for the next seven years.
Nina has been at the centre of several major storylines, including a devastating hate-crime attack in 2021 that left her and boyfriend Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) brutally assaulted. Seb later died from his injuries. Her subsequent relationship with Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) and her close bond with Roy proved popular with audiences.
Exit Confirmed and Next Role
A source told Digital Spy: 'Mollie has created a unique and well loved character in Nina over the past six and a half years and everyone will be sorry to see her go. It is fantastic for Mollie that she has been given this incredible opportunity to play such an iconic role and we wish her all the best for the theatre tour.'
Gallagher has already wrapped filming on Coronation Street and will take on the role of Clarice Starling, made famous by Jodie Foster in the 1991 film, for a stage adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs touring the UK and Ireland.
