Ant and Dec, known for their friendly double act on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, have revealed they once considered taking on roles that would have shown a very different side of their personalities. The pair discussed the possibility of starring in Little Shop of Horrors, the cult musical comedy about a shy florist, a bloodthirsty plant, and the chaos that ensues.
Ant and Dec's Potential Roles
While Declan Donnelly, 50, would have been suited to the part of lovable underdog Seymour, Ant McPartlin's character could not have been more different from his usual happy-go-lucky self. The TV star was once almost cast as one of theatre's most memorable bad guys: Orin Scrivello, the flamboyant, twisted, and villainous dentist.
Discussing their favourite musicals on the podcast Hanging Out, Ant, 50, said: "I'd like to be in Little Shop of Horrors." Dec asked: "Who would you play?" Ant answered: "The dentist, obviously." He then revealed that they were actually in talks about starring in the musical, adding: "We thought about doing that for a while didn't we?" Dec replied: "We did. That was nearly on the cards, me as Seymour Krelborn and Ant as the dentist."
Previous Theatre Experience
The role of Orin Scrivello was famously portrayed by Steve Martin in the 1986 film adaptation, but has also been played by Busted's Matt Willis and X Factor's Rhydian Roberts in various stage productions. The lads enjoyed a stint in panto in 1998, and they still dream about starring in theatre one day.
Ant shared: "I think we would like to definitely do theatre, and you'd like to definitely be in a musical wouldn't you?" Dec said: "At some point, yeah. We done Panto, we did that in 1998." Ant continued: "We have had quite a few conversations about doing theatre in the future and I think we probably will at some point. Whether we sing in it or not..." Playfully singing, Dec declared: "I will!"
Not a Fan of Grease or Mamma Mia
One thing is for sure: they won't be starring in Grease or Mamma Mia, as both admitted they can't stand those shows.
