Robert Eggers, the acclaimed director behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, and Nosferatu, has unveiled the trailer for his latest period horror, Werwulf. The film is set in 13th-century England and features a script entirely spoken in Middle English, marking a bold linguistic choice that immerses audiences in the medieval setting.
Cast and Crew
James Bond bookies' favourite Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as a cursed farmer, opposite Lily-Rose Deep as his wife. Regular Eggers collaborators Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson return in new character roles. The screenplay is co-written with Sjón, who previously co-wrote The Northman with Eggers.
Plot and Release
The story follows a werewolf haunting local villagers in a tale of devotion, damnation, and the devil within. Universal Pictures teases: "Witness Robert Eggers' most visceral and haunting experience yet. Focus Features presents WERWULF, a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within." Werwulf hits UK cinemas on New Year's Day.
