Wimbledon Star Warned for Black Undershirt Breach

Spanish tennis player Jessica Bouzas was officially warned by the umpire during her Wimbledon first-round match after her black undershirt became visible, breaching the tournament's strict all-white dress code. The world No. 52 comfortably defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 6-3 on Court 17, but the incident occurred near the end of the match when the black vest peaked out from behind her back.

Umpire Warning and Player Reaction

As spectators began to leave the stands, Bouzas remained on court looking up at the umpire in her chair, engaged in a lengthy discussion. She later explained the exchange to Movistar Plus Deportes: "A problem here is that they are very strict with many things. I think it was a bit of black here, and you can't do that, so I will have to sort it out. But yes, they are very strict with things like this, so now I'll see how I can fix it."

Wimbledon's Strict All-White Rule

Wimbledon's dress code explicitly states: "Competitors must be dressed in suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white and this applies from the point at which the player enters the court surround. White does not include off white or cream." The rules further specify that there should be no solid mass or panel of colouring, and a single trim of colour around the neckline and cuff of sleeves is acceptable only if no wider than one centimetre (10mm). Colour contained within patterns is measured as a solid mass and must also be within the one-centimetre guide. Logos formed by variations of material or patterns are not permitted. However, female players are allowed to wear "solid, mid/dark-coloured undershorts provided they are no longer than their shorts or skirt."

Match Outcome and Next Round

Bouzas' victory over Potapova set up a second-round clash with Dayana Yastremska. She required three sets to overcome the Ukrainian, winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. The Spanish player, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, will need to ensure her attire complies with the all-white policy in subsequent matches.
