Wimbledon 2026 Viewers Slam BBC's 'Poor' Live Coverage

Viewers of the Wimbledon Championships 2026 have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the BBC's live coverage just minutes into the first day of the tournament on Monday, June 29. Isa Guha returned to host the early morning broadcast on BBC, but audiences quickly took to social media to voice complaints about limited options on BBC iPlayer, poor camera quality, and interruptions during changeovers.

Complaints About iPlayer and Red Button Options

Multiple tennis fans criticized the lack of choice on BBC iPlayer. One viewer posted on X: "Why can't I choose the court I want on BBC iPlayer?" Another added: "Poor BBC coverage of Wimbledon already. Watching Gill v Jodar on the red button and they switch to another match yet say it's available on iPlayer and BBC2. Surely if you pick an advertised match on iPlayer it's not too much to expect to stick with that match."

A third viewer remarked: "It's a real pain in the neck that they don't have the red button for Wimbledon so you can choose who you want to watch. You would think BBC would have been better than this!" The red button service, which traditionally allows viewers to select specific courts, was reportedly unavailable.

Camera Quality and Advert Grievances

Another spectator noted: "Am I the only one watching Wimbledon right now that thinks the camera quality is poor? I'm watching on BBC Two HD right now and it just looks fuzzy around letters and not clear and sharp." This complaint about visual clarity was echoed by others.

Additionally, a viewer appealed: "An early plea (which will undoubtedly be ignored). Could we please NOT have adverts for BBC programmes (which we have already watched) during the change overs at #Wimbledon."

Notable Returns and Storylines

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships feature several major storylines. American legend Serena Williams is poised to make a stunning singles return after four years absent from the sport. She will also reunite in her legendary doubles partnership with her elder sister, Venus. British great Andy Murray is present at the venue as part of Jack Draper's coaching staff. Novak Djokovic continues pursuing his elusive record 25th Grand Slam trophy, facing fierce competition from current World Number One Jannik Sinner.

Tribute to Carol Kirkwood

At the start of the broadcast, Isa Guha paid tribute to Carol Kirkwood, who will not return to present the weather at Wimbledon after departing BBC Breakfast in April. Guha said: "Now, this is normally the time in the show that we head across to Carol Kirkwood for a British weather update, especially here in the sunshine. It would have been great to see her, but after 28 years on BBC Breakfast, Carol has moved on. So, we wish you all the best, Carol. Hopefully you've got your feet up on the sofa with a cup of tea to enjoy the tennis this week."

Announcing Carol's replacements, Guha added: "Of course, there isn't one presenter who could replace Carol, so we're going to have a selection of BBC weather's finest over the two weeks, including today with Matt Taylor." Coverage of Wimbledon will air on BBC One and BBC Two, as well as being available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
