The White Lotus Season Four Filming Locations Revealed on French Riviera
The highly anticipated fourth season of HBO's award-winning anthology series, The White Lotus, has officially commenced filming, with production now underway across several glamorous locations on the French Riviera. This marks a significant shift for the series, which previously utilised Four Seasons resorts as its primary backdrops.
European Debut for the Hit Series
Despite widespread speculation that season four might be set in destinations such as Tanzania, Mexico, or the French Alps, HBO has confirmed that filming is concentrated on the Côte d'Azur. The new season will follow a fresh ensemble of guests during a week of the Cannes Film Festival, introducing themes that build upon the previous seasons' explorations of money, sex, and spirituality.
Notable new cast members include Helena Bonham Carter and Steve Coogan, who will join the series' signature narrative of dysfunctional luxury and mysterious events.
Luxury Hotels as Key Filming Sites
Production details, typically kept under wraps, have been disclosed ahead of filming. The season will prominently feature two ultra-luxury hotels that will stand in for the fictional White Lotus hotel chain.
In St Tropez, the Airelles Château de la Messardière will serve as the White Lotus du Cap. This historic chateau, originally constructed in 1904 as a wedding gift, is perched on a hill surrounded by umbrella pine trees, offering stunning views of superyachts in the glistening bays below.
Meanwhile, in Cannes, the legendary Hôtel Martinez will take centre stage as the White Lotus Cannes. This five-star palace hotel on Boulevard de la Croisette is renowned for its private beach and attracts a celebrity clientele, especially during the film festival season.
Additional filming will occur in Monaco and Paris, though the storyline will remain focused along the Côte d'Azur, according to HBO.
Recap of Previous Seasons' Locations
The relocation to Europe follows the series' earlier seasons, which were filmed in North America and Asia, each contributing to a surge in tourism for the featured resorts.
- Season One – Set in Maui, Hawaii, at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. Filming was largely confined to the hotel due to Covid-19 restrictions, with some scenes shot at Wailea Beach.
- Season Two – Filmed in Sicily, Italy, using the San Domenico Palace, Taormina, a Four Seasons property, as the main hotel. The production also featured the towns of Taormina, Noto, and Cefalù.
- Season Three – Set in Thailand, with filming across Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui. Key locations included Anantara resorts such as Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort and Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui.
Each season has leveraged its idyllic settings to enhance the show's critique of wealth and privilege, while simultaneously boosting local tourism through increased bookings at the featured luxury properties.
As production continues on the French Riviera, fans can anticipate another season of satirical drama set against the backdrop of some of Europe's most exclusive destinations. Previous seasons of The White Lotus are available for streaming on Sky and NOW.
