Hunter Doohan, who plays Tyler Galpin in Netflix's Wednesday, has confirmed his character's return for season 3 and explained what lies ahead after the season 2 finale. In the final episode, Wednesday freed Tyler instead of killing him, cutting him loose with an axe and saying simply: 'I missed.' Doohan told RadioTimes.com that this moment encapsulated their complex relationship, which began as a romance in season 1 before evolving into a rivalry.
Doohan revealed that Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, improvised the final line. 'She came in with so many great ideas,' he said. 'It was really incredible to watch.' Tyler's freedom comes with a catch: according to the show's lore, Hydes cannot survive without a master, and his mother Francoise is dead. However, Isadora Capri (Billie Piper) informs him of a pack of Hydes that live together without needing a master, and the pair head off to find them.
Discussing season 3, Doohan said: 'I want Tyler to find... I think I'll always kind of wrestle with the morality and then the Hyde versus Human side of himself, but I think we've still yet to see him be in control.' He noted that Tyler has been under someone's control throughout the series—first Laurel, then his mother and uncle—and now faces an uncertain future. 'He knows he's gonna die. He doesn't have a master. He's kind of lost all hope. And then it's this one little glimmer of hope that comes from Capri's character,' Doohan added.
Wednesday season 2 is streaming now on Netflix, with season 3 expected to continue Tyler's story as he seeks the pack of Hydes and a chance to survive without a master.
