Under Salt Marsh Episode Count and Release Schedule Explained

The British crime drama Under Salt Marsh has quickly captured audience attention since its premiere last week. Featuring acclaimed stars including Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly and Trying actor Rafe Spall, the Sky series presents a compelling narrative set against the breathtaking backdrop of Welsh coastal landscapes.

Compelling Narrative and Stunning Setting

Set in the fictional close-knit community of Morfa Halen, the drama unfolds as detectives investigate the tragic murder of a young schoolboy. The investigation faces extraordinary challenges as the seaside town itself is gradually being consumed by the ocean, with crucial evidence literally washing away with the tides.

This environmental element adds a unique layer of tension to the traditional crime drama format, creating what creator Claire Oakley describes as a "rich psychological landscape" where the physical environment directly influences character behaviour and plot development.

Complete Episode Release Schedule

Under Salt Marsh consists of six episodes in total, released on a weekly basis rather than as a complete boxset. The series launched on January 30th on both Sky and NOW streaming platforms, with viewers treated to the first two episodes back-to-back as an immersive introduction to the story.

Here is the complete weekly release schedule for the remaining episodes:

  1. January 30th: Episodes 1 & 2 (Premiere)
  2. February 6th: Episode 3
  3. February 13th: Episode 4
  4. February 20th: Episode 5
  5. February 27th: Episode 6 (Series Finale)

Environmental Inspiration Behind the Drama

Series creator Claire Oakley has revealed the real-world inspiration behind Under Salt Marsh, explaining that the concept emerged from concerns about coastal erosion and sea level rise affecting the UK's landmass. Oakley stated: "Most of my work has been inspired by place and with the UK's landmass decreasing due to coastal erosion and sea level rise, I felt inspired to set a story in a colourful coastal community, full of spirit, that we want to see saved."

The creator further elaborated on the psychological dimensions of the setting: "I've always been interested in psychogeography: how the landscape can have a psychological effect on its characters and vice versa and I felt that a precarious position on salt marsh could provide a rich psychological landscape to delve into."

Oakley noted that the environmental threat creates a unique community dynamic: "For most of us, it is incredibly hard to imagine or believe what is going to happen in the future, especially with something so vast as the climate crisis, but the people of this town might have a special kind of heightened awareness that would inform their behaviour and actions."

She added that this environmental pressure reveals both community strengths and vulnerabilities: "In the face of adversity, people tend to hold on fast to what they love, and I wanted this to be both this community's strength and their weakness as the story unfolded."

Where to Watch

Under Salt Marsh continues to air on Sky and NOW streaming service every Friday, with the series finale scheduled for February 27th. The drama represents a significant addition to British television crime offerings, combining traditional investigative storytelling with contemporary environmental themes and exceptional Welsh scenery.
