The British crime drama Under Salt Marsh, starring Kelly Reilly and Rafe Spall, has captivated viewers since its launch last week. The Sky series, set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, follows detectives investigating the murder of a young schoolboy while the community faces the threat of coastal erosion.
The series consists of six episodes, released weekly rather than as a full boxset. The first two episodes premiered back-to-back on January 30 on Sky and NOW.
Creator Claire Oakley explained the inspiration behind the show: 'Most of my work has been inspired by place and with the UK's landmass decreasing due to coastal erosion and sea level rise, I felt inspired to set a story in a colourful coastal community, full of spirit, that we want to see saved.'
Oakley added that the precarious setting on salt marsh provides a 'rich psychological landscape' to explore how the environment affects characters' behaviour and actions.
