An Iowa TV news anchor choked up as he quit his job on air, blaming the station for focusing on “trends or sanitised news” instead of taking people “out of their bubbles.”
Dustin Nolan, the morning anchor for NBC affiliate KWQC-TV 6 in Davenport, became emotional Friday while announcing his departure from the station, where he has worked since 2022.
“I have chosen to step away from the news industry,” he began. “Before I say goodbye, I just want to say, I hope every one of you that’s allowed me to be a part of your mornings knows just how important I have taken this job, how much it means to me that you’ve trusted me these past few years to bring you the news in the morning.”
Nolan emphasised his goal was always to be transparent with viewers and provide a public service to the Quad Cities. “When it comes to this job, all I’ve ever wanted to do is report on the issues that really matter,” he said. “I also believe that we, as a local news station, have to be more than trends or sanitised news, because it makes people uncomfortable.”
“That’s why the facts matter, and that’s why we do what we do here. We have to take people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and make them think about the world we all live in,” he said.
The teary anchor then praised his co-anchor and wife, Jenna, whom he referred to as the “greatest co-anchor in life.” His wife was set to remain on the programme run by Gray Media. Nolan did not specify what he planned to do after leaving the journalism industry.
