Ashley Walters, who played Dushane Hill in Top Boy, has confirmed that Jaq (Jasmine Jobson) killed Sully (Kano) in the show's final season, ending one of the series' biggest mysteries.
Speaking on an episode of re:WORKING with Tim Campbell, Walters revealed the truth behind the cliffhanger that saw a mystery figure approach Sully's car and shoot him through the window after Stefan (Araloyin Oshunremi) spared his life.
The confession and the edit decision
When answering another question from the host, Walters said: "And Jaq (Jasmine Jobson) is the answer to your other question you keep on asking."
Host Campbell followed up with: "What's the other question?", to which Walters replied: "Bro, that is the biggest question," before clarifying: "It was me and Kane [Robinson] that made the ending that way, because they had the whole killing and we went in the edit and we was like, 'Nah, don't tell people who did it, cut it out, who did it'."
He added: "It's because we want the show to live on, because we're never going to do it again. So, we want the show to live on, and that is the most hated question now, bro. 'Who killed Sully?' And people think they're being funny. Like, 'Dushane, Dushane. Who killed Sully?' I'm like, bro, come on, come on. Please. It's the most asked question now. But yeah, Jaq," he confirmed.
Jaq's motives and the spin-offs
Jaq and Sully shared chaotic scenes after Sully's stash of substances went missing, with Jaq stealing 25 kilos, hoping to earn some money to start a new life with her nephew. She ended up backing out of the plan and offered to return the stash before Dushane intercepted the delivery.
Jaq had always been a possible murder suspect as she knew Sully would kill her one day, and she was also out for revenge after Sully ordered her best friend, Kieron Palmer (Joshua Blissett), to be killed.
Netflix recently confirmed fans would get two new spin-off shows, one of which has the working title Jaq, and will focus on the title character, with Jobson reprising the role. Whether the spin-off will begin with Jaq's killing of Sully has not been confirmed.
The other spin-off is Jonny Boy, a five-episode series written by Ronan Bennett, who created the original series. The show will see Barry Keoghan return as Jonny McGee, one of the main antagonists in season five.
Fan reactions
Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on the Sully revelation, with many saying they already knew Jaq was behind the killing. One said: "I think it was obvious that it was Jaq and since they're giving us a Jaq spin-off, I hope they go into that there." Another agreed: "So obvious when we heard they're doing a Top Boy spin-off with Jaq as the main character."
A third lamented: "Everyone knew that already, it was her walk." While a fourth shared: "Most people already knew I think, it was pretty obvious." Eagle-eyed fans were convinced all along, with one pointing out: "If you freeze after Sully is shot, you can see Jaq."
A final fan pointed out: "Camo hoodie = Jaq, thought that was common knowledge for people that watched the show." Fans will have to wait and see whether the Jaq spin-off addresses Sully's death. Jonny Boy and Jaq are coming soon to Netflix.
