Strictly Come Dancing contestant Thomas Skinner has paid an emotional tribute to his professional partner Amy Dowden, calling her a 'cancer warrior' following her battle with breast cancer. The pair made their debut on the dance floor last weekend, performing a paso doble that earned them a score of 16, placing them 13th on the leaderboard.
Sharing a series of images on Instagram, Thomas posted a throwback picture from six years ago when he painted his nails pink to raise awareness for breast cancer, alongside photos from his recent dance with Amy. He wrote: 'Now 6 years later, I'm dancing on Strictly Come Dancing with my little Cancer warrior @amy_dowden, who has battled breast cancer and helped raise awareness. She honestly is a living legend.'
Thomas also reminded his followers that men can get breast cancer, urging everyone to check their breasts. Amy responded to the post, thanking him for his support and looking forward to their time on Lorraine and in the dance studio. Fans praised the post, with one commenting on the importance of raising awareness that men can also be affected.
Amy Dowden was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2023 after discovering a lump the day before her honeymoon. She underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and in 2024, doctors found 'no evidence' of the disease. However, she continues to receive monthly injections for at least five years as part of her ongoing monitoring.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday, October 4, on BBC One at 6:18pm.
