Rick Stein swore live on This Morning during a chaotic cooking segment that viewers branded "car crash TV," after technical problems with an induction hob disrupted his prawn pilaf demonstration.
Hob Troubles Derail Cooking Segment
Hosts Dermot O'Leary and Sian Welby were joined by the celebrity chef, who struggled to turn on the induction hob. "I don't know what it is, but I just find using these ovens, induction ovens, very tricky. I don't know why. I've got them at home," Stein said as Welby tried to help.
O'Leary also stepped in, apologising to Stein. "It's hard, isn't it?" he asked, to which Stein agreed, adding that his wife would "tell me to stop whinging and get on with it."
Oven Dial Falls and Shallots Burn
The problems continued when Stein pressed a button on the oven and something fell to the floor. "Now look at that. This is where it really gets tricky," he said, as Welby reached for the fallen item. O'Leary eventually held up what appeared to be the cap of one of the cooker's dials, prompting Welby to joke about calling tech support.
Stein also burnt the shallots and forgot the name of cinnamon, needing to ask the hosts what it was called. However, his frustration peaked over people's attitudes to prawn shells. "I've been saying 'don't throw away your prawn shells' and I get p***ed off, excuse my language," he said. O'Leary groaned and put his head in his hands, commenting the language was "lovely stuff."
Viewers React to Swearing
After apologising, Stein was told by O'Leary: "No, don't apologise, you're Rick Stein, we'll apologise on your behalf." Fans were amused, with some calling the segment a "car crash" and others enjoying the unusual sight of Stein swearing.
One viewer said they would have bet on a "fully tattooed guy" rather than Stein dropping the "P" word, while another said it was "not on their bingo card" for the year, "especially in relation to prawn shells." A third wrote on X: "Somebody please preserve Rick Stein. He is taking the Wayne Rooney route to national treasure status."
The segment ended with viewers praising the moment as the "highlight of the segment," with one saying they were "here for it."
