This City is Ours Season 3 Confirmed by BBC

The BBC has confirmed that Liverpool-based crime drama This City is Ours will return for a third season, with filming expected to take place primarily in Liverpool in 2027. The announcement was made ahead of the second series' debut on BBC iPlayer.

Season Two Introduces New Threats

The second season sees Michael Kavanagh (James Nelson-Joyce) and Diana (Hannah Onslow) dragged back into the world of crime to answer for Ricardo Guzman's (Daniel Cerqueira) death. His younger brother, Felipe (Álvaro Morte), now leads the cartel and retaliates by threatening to destroy what Michael cares about most.

A new threat also emerges in the form of Ozzie Thompson (Shaun Evans), a recently-released gangster from Ronnie's (Sean Bean) past, who is seeking compensation or revenge. Filmed across Merseyside and Spain, the season is available to binge in full on BBC iPlayer.

Creator and Cast Reactions

Creator Stephen Butchard said: "Following the quite breathtaking response to series one, myself, the cast and our wonderful crew were all determined not to drop the ball and endeavour to deliver an even better series two. No spoilers, but I’m hoping this fantastic early commission from the BBC for a third series is an indication that we may have come close to doing just that."

He added: "Many, many thanks to Lindsay Salt, Jo McClellan and all at BBC Drama for their never-ending support. And of course, sincere thanks to all who have watched, embraced and spread the word. I hope you enjoy series two as much as we enjoyed making it - can’t wait to do it all over again."

According to the BBC, the series has attracted an average of 6.3 million viewers so far.

Fans Await Season Three

Casting details for series three will be announced soon. Nelson-Joyce named Line of Duty's Daniel Mays as an actor he would love to appear alongside, telling Digital Spy: "So many people have messaged me going 'I want to be in this', but [I would pick] Daniel Mays." Actress Onslow suggested Anne-Marie Duff would be a "great" counterbalance to Julie Graham's Elaine Phelan.

Fans have taken to social media to express their excitement. One X user wrote: "What can I say #thiscityisours absolutely amazing cannot wait for Season 3 sorry but my favourite is #Banksy Mike Noble." Another added: "Roll on season 3 #ThisCityIsOurs." On Facebook, one fan shared: "Please close the city and start filming series 3.. gutted it's come to the end.. I need more."

Nelson-Joyce also reflected on filming in his hometown, telling the BBC: "Filming in Liverpool again has been amazing. The city, now that they've seen the series, welcomed us with open arms and they’re proud of the show. There’s been a lot of people from across the world reaching out asking 'where is this location?', or 'where is that restaurant?'. It’s a great opportunity for us to show the city, and everything it can offer, to even more to the world. I'm so, so proud of the series."

This City is Ours season 2 is on BBC iPlayer, with episodes airing weekly on Sundays and Mondays on BBC One.
