This City Is Ours season 2 cast and start time revealed

This City Is Ours returns to BBC One on Sunday, October 25 at 9pm, with James Nelson-Joyce reprising his role as Michael Kavanagh in the second series of the drama. The first season, which aired in 2025, was hailed as a "masterpiece" by fans.

What happens in season 2

The BBC previously teased: "Picking up from where things were left at the end of series one, Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when they are dragged back into the fold to answer questions around Ricardo’s death."

"Back in Liverpool, tensions continue to bubble amongst the remaining members of the gang. Meanwhile, an old school gangster from Ronnie's era, recently out of prison, wants compensation from the firm."

Writer and creator Stephen Butchard, known for The Last Kingdom and The Good Mothers, said: "A major theme this series is consequences – for every action, there is a reaction – the problem is that some reactions are predictable, but most are not. An action can quite often be considered as a domino – it topples, but that is the beginning and not the end. Again, we explore the delicious human emotions and truth of love, desire, greed, fear, anger, betrayal and the need for status and power."

Episode release schedule

Season 2 begins on Sunday, October 25 at 9pm, with the second episode airing on Monday, October 26. New episodes will then air twice weekly on Sundays and Mondays, with eight episodes in total. The series finale is likely to air on Monday, November 23.

Ahead of the series, James Nelson-Joyce teased: "At the end of the first series Michael had decided that he wanted to choose a life with Diana, and they left for Spain. At the beginning of series two, that’s where we find them, in Happy Town, and it's picture-perfect."

"Then something happens that drags Michael back to Liverpool, and once again, he has to choose between Diana and his other life - he’s a complex mix of ruthless and vulnerable."

The BBC also confirmed that This City Is Ours has been commissioned for a third instalment.
