Sony Pictures is moving forward with a third instalment of the 'Jump Street' franchise, titled '24 Jump Street', with stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube in negotiations to reprise their roles. The film will be directed by Rodney Rothman, known for 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', who co-wrote the script with Hill and Meghan Malloy.
Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed the first two films, are returning alongside Neal H. Moritz. Tatum and Reid Carolin will produce for Free Association, while Hill and Matt Dines produce under their Strong Baby banner. The project continues the running gag established in the post-credits scene of '22 Jump Street', which parodied Hollywood's tendency to franchise endlessly.
The first film, '21 Jump Street' (2012), grossed over $200 million worldwide, with its sequel '22 Jump Street' (2014) earning $331 million. A third film has been in development for over a decade, with Tatum previously describing the script for a scrapped '23 Jump Street' crossover with 'Men in Black' as the best he had ever read for a third movie.
At present, Tatum has only received an offer to return; negotiations are expected to commence soon. No release date has been announced.
