Glasgow's World's Tallest Cinema Reopens July 10 After £22m Renovation

Omniplex Cinemas has announced the phased reopening of the world's tallest cinema on Renfrew Street in Glasgow, beginning Friday, July 10, 2026, following a £22 million renovation. The former Cineworld venue closed in 2025 and has undergone a complete transformation over nine months.

Renovation Details and New Features

The renovation includes upgrades to all 15 screens, with fully reclining luxury seats and sofa beds installed. New double recliners and a full sofa bed screen have been introduced, alongside the first 4D-Emotion screen in the Omniplex portfolio, offering motion seats and environmental effects during screenings.

The cinema will house four OmniplexMAXX screens, the chain's premium large format, including the largest MAXX screen ever built by the group. These screens feature Dolby Atmos audio technology, 4K Barco laser projection, and over 300 premium seats.

Phased Opening Schedule

On July 10, only the ground floor, shop, and screen levels one and two will be open. The remaining two screen levels will open on a phased basis, with full completion expected by September 2026. The top floor will host The Avenue, a luxury cinema concept with a separate entrance, opening later this year.

Promotional Offers and Amenities

From July 10 to July 12, tickets are priced from £4.95, with the first 100 guests each day receiving free XL popcorn. The renovated foyer and lounge area feature Omniplex's signature style, and a special edition of Joe's Food Truck in a shipping container will serve giant 24-inch pizzas, fried chicken, burgers, drinks, and cocktails.

Paul John Anderson, director of Omniplex Cinemas, said: "It's been an honour to give the world's tallest cinema a new lease of life. With a total investment of £22 million, our transformation of Omniplex Renfrew Street brings the very best modern cinema to the city." He added: "With four OmniplexMAXX screens, including our largest ever featuring Dolby Atmos sound, premium reclining seating and sofa beds, we're proud to offer an elevated cinema experience for Glasgow audiences."
