The critically acclaimed mockumentary series The Paper, a spin-off of the US version of The Office, has been renewed for a second season. The new episodes will premiere on Sky and streaming service NOW on September 10, according to a report from the Mirror.
Cast and Guest Stars
Domhnall Gleeson, known for his role as Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter films, returns as lead character Ned. He is joined by Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, and Gbemisola Ikumelo, all reprising their roles. Guest stars for season two include Jon Lovitz (The Simpsons), Andy Richter (Conan), and Lisa Gilroy (Jury Duty).
Plot Synopsis
The series follows a documentary crew filming at the offices of a struggling Midwestern newspaper. The synopsis for season two reads: “In season two, after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards, Ned searches for a journalistic crusade, coming for a local private club and jeopardizing the paper, while he and Mare try to figure out their attraction, Esmeralda struggles to find her place, and the staff gradually mature as reporters.”
Critical and Audience Reception
Launched in 2025, The Paper was an instant hit. On Rotten Tomatoes, one fan called it “absolutely a masterpiece” and expressed hope for “many, many more seasons.” Another viewer wrote: “A must watch! The Office is such a cultural staple that I didn’t think recreating it in a modern world – where not every joke would be allowed anymore – was even possible. But this revival absolutely delivered. I laughed out loud so many times.”
On IMDb, a user praised the show’s “perfect mix of heart, humour, and workplace chaos,” adding that “fans of The Office will feel right at home.” Another described it as “comedy at its finest” and “an unexpected gem,” noting that it “captures that same kind of dry, awkward brilliance, but without feeling like a cheap knock-off.”
A further fan said the series was “perfect” and admitted being “obsessed,” commenting: “The likeness to The Office is insane but not in a copycat way more so in the sense as it had the same feel as The Office but still very original writing.”
