Beloved Netflix Legal Drama 'The Lincoln Lawyer' to End After Five Seasons
'The Lincoln Lawyer' Ending After Five Seasons on Netflix

Netflix has announced that its beloved legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer will come to an end with its fifth season. The streaming service confirmed on Wednesday that the series, which has performed well over the past four years, will conclude with its next installment, currently in production.

Co-Showrunners on the Final Season

Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez expressed their thoughts in a statement: “All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is, of course, bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.” They added, “We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!”

Based on Michael Connelly’s Novels

The series, based on the novels by Michael Connelly, centers on Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s character, Mickey Haller, an attorney who operates from the back seat of his Lincoln sedan. Connelly’s premise also inspired the 2011 film starring Matthew McConaughey. The upcoming fifth season will be based on Connelly’s seventh book in the series, Resurrection Walk, and will feature Cobie Smulders as Mickey’s long-lost half-sister, who seeks his help in freeing a wrongfully convicted woman.

Cast and Production

Alongside Garcia-Rulfo and Smulders, returning cast members include Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, and Angus Sampson, with recurring guest stars Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Marie, and Gigi Zumbado. New additions to the cast are Amy Aquino, Angela Trimbur, Elpidia Carillo, Nate Corddry, Tricia Helfer, and Keir O’Donnell. The fifth season will consist of 10 episodes, though a release date has not yet been announced.

Previous Success

The show’s renewal for a fifth season was confirmed a week before the fourth season premiered in February. The most recent installment spent four weeks on Netflix’s worldwide top 10 English-speaking series list, amassing over 26.4 million views during that period, according to the streaming service.

This news follows the recent announcement that another major Netflix series, The Night Agent, will also end after its upcoming fourth season. Creator Shawn Ryan stated, “Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I’ve been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland’s journey... We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget.”
