The final episode of Prime Video's The Boys is set to air next week, with a confirmed runtime of 1 hour and 5 minutes. The season five finale, which marks the definitive end of the series, will be released on Prime Video in the UK on Wednesday, May 20 at 8am.
Fans have expressed mixed reactions to the runtime, with some taking to social media to voice concerns that 65 minutes may not be sufficient to wrap up the storylines. One viewer wrote on X: 'The Boys finale needs to be about 2.5 hours long,' while another commented: 'The finale only being an hour and not two is baffling to me.'
In the US and Canada, the episode will be screened in select 4DX-enabled cinemas on Tuesday, May 19 at 9:30pm, ahead of its streaming release. However, no such screenings are planned for UK fans.
Showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that convincing Sony and Prime Video to end the series after five seasons required negotiation. Speaking to CBR, Kripke said: 'I don't have the power to just say, "Yeah, I'm gonna end it." They're the ones who own it... To their credit, they really believed in the creativity and let us get away with it.'
The finale is expected to deliver the ultimate showdown for Homelander, played by Antony Starr, following the events of the penultimate episode. Fans are hopeful that Kripke will provide a satisfying conclusion, potentially deviating from the original comics.
