Sweet Magnolias fans threaten to skip season 5 as star missing from trailer

Sweet Magnolias fans are threatening to abandon season five after its trailer dropped without a key character. Netflix subscribers have been eagerly awaiting the return of the South Carolina-set drama for over a year, but the promotional footage released on Thursday, 11 June, has sparked concern.

The trailer notably omits Tyler Townsend, played by Carson Rowland, despite his character finally becoming a couple with Annie Sullivan (Anneliese Judge) at the end of season four. Annie does make a fleeting appearance in the trailer, but Tyler is nowhere to be seen, leading to speculation about his role in the upcoming season.

On YouTube, one viewer questioned, “Is Ty not there this season?” prompting another to respond, “Ty better be in this season, or else I’m not watching.” A third declared: “Finally it’s coming back! Just hoping Ty is still in the season since Carson isn’t anywhere in this trailer.” Another commented: “This is cool and all you know.. but where is Tyler I need to see Tyler and Annie.”

Season four ended with Tyler revealing he was set to embark on a European music tour shortly after he and Annie became a couple. Annie had originally planned to accompany him but chose to focus on her own career aspirations at the Monterey Institute for the Arts in California, leading the pair to part ways. The trailer shows Annie receiving support from friends, likely linked to her imminent departure.

Sweet Magnolias season five premieres on Thursday, 11 June, on Netflix.
