Balvinder Sopal has revealed that an injury forced her exit from Strictly Come Dancing, ending a run marked by repeated dance-offs and public underappreciation. The EastEnders star, who was widely tipped for elimination before the quarter-finals, said she had been struggling with a physical issue that ultimately made it impossible to continue.
Sopal had faced the bottom two four times during the series, more than any other remaining contestant. Despite delivering strong performances, including a highly praised Argentine Tango in Blackpool and a moving Couple's Choice dedicated to her late mother, she failed to secure consistent public support. Her highest score of 34 points came for the Bollywood-inspired routine, which temporarily spared her from the dance-off.
The actress's departure was confirmed after she was unable to perform in the quarter-finals due to injury. Her professional partner, Julian Callion, expressed disappointment but praised her resilience. 'Balvinder gave everything to every routine, and it's cruel that her journey ended this way,' he said.
Sopal's exit follows that of La Voix, who withdrew earlier due to injury. With the competition now down to five couples, the remaining contestants include Amber Davies, Lewis Cope, and Karen Carney, all of whom have strong chances of reaching the final.
Reflecting on her time on the show, Sopal said she was proud of her achievements despite the setbacks. 'I gave it my all, and I hope people remember the joy I brought to the dance floor,' she said.
