Strictly announces first three-way dance-off for Halloween

Strictly Come Dancing will introduce a ground-breaking twist during Halloween week, as three couples face the dance-off for the first time in the show's history. The three couples with the lowest public votes will dance again before the judges decide which couple to send home.

Judges react to the twist

Speaking about the change, judge Craig Revel Horwood gave a three-word response, admitting: "I can't wait." During the most recent results show, he told Johannes Radebe and Emma Willis that usually the judges vote on who they want to save, although this time they will be voting on who they want to eliminate.

The BBC judges clarified that only one duo will be leaving the competition.

Anton Du Beke explains the change

On the spin-off show Lights Up, Anton Du Beke shared his thoughts on the three-way dance-off. Asked by Tyler West how this will change things, Anton replied: "Well, you're going to see a side of Craig you rarely see because he's more desperate to eliminate people than save them. He saves them under duress; he's vicious!"

"But, it's going to be exciting. A three-way dance-off is going to be very exciting as well because it's a whole new level of, 'I wasn't expecting to be in the dance-off'. So, this could be anyone. You could be way up on the leader board, and then you could be in the dance-off," he added.

Craig also shared his enthusiasm for the twist, saying: "It's going to be great. My eyes have lit up, darling."

Latest elimination

Shaun Wright-Phillips was the latest star to leave the show on Sunday night (October 25), after finding himself in the dance-off with Jaime Winstone. While Motsi Mabuse and Craig opted to save Jaime, Shirley Ballas decided to save Shaun. Anton Du Beke's final vote agreed with his two co-stars as he chose to keep Jaime in the competition.

Speaking to Emma Willis following his exit, Shaun said: "I don't think I can put into words how my time has been, from the pros, judges, staff behind the cameras, everyone who's helped me along the way, it's been the most amazing journey I've had."

"And thank you for giving me the chance to be on the Strictly Ballroom floor and actually learn how to dance."

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday October 31 on BBC One from 6:30pm.
