Former Love Island star Siannise Fudge has criticised the current series of the show, describing the normalisation of toxic behaviour as 'disturbing'. The 2020 runner-up shared her concerns on social media, referencing her own experience of an abusive relationship.
Fudge posted a quote from model Bella Hadid about returning to abusive partners, before writing: 'I have been a victim in my past relationships of this behaviour, which I thought was normal, and that's the scariest part. It's so disappointing and very disturbing that this behaviour on national TV, especially on one of the biggest TV shows, is being normalised.'
Her comments come after Women's Aid issued a statement condemning misogyny and sexism on the show, noting that 'women are often lied to, slut-shamed and manipulated'. The charity called for better education for contestants on these issues.
Fudge also praised her current boyfriend, footballer George Rigg, writing: 'Thank you for being my safety, my peace, and showing me what a real healthy love is.' She added that the behaviour on the show 'hasn't been about finding love, it's been about power, control, and emotional abuse'.
Love Island producers confirmed that contestants receive training on respectful relationships and coercive behaviour before entering the villa, and are offered ongoing support during and after filming.
