Adam Olverson has been charged with the manslaughter of his father, Thomas Olverson, who was shot dead on his farm in Scarisbrick, Lancashire, almost two years ago. The 75-year-old was killed on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Marsh Hey Farm on Pinfold Lane, just outside Merseyside. Lancashire Police launched an investigation after the shooting, which occurred shortly before 5pm on the field adjacent to the family home.
Arrest and Charges
Adam Olverson was re-arrested on June 29 and charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without a license. He is due to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, July 1. The charges come after a lengthy police investigation into the death of Thomas Olverson, who was known locally as Tommy.
Neighbor Accounts
Andrew Overton, a neighbor, recalled working for Thomas Olverson as a teenager. He described him as a quiet man who kept to himself. Overton said: "He would keep himself to himself, he was very quiet. He would always be walking past the house to his field at the end of the road." Another neighbor, Dennis Fullingham, noted that Thomas would regularly walk past with a machete to cut cabbages. Fullingham added: "I feel sorry for them, I really do. I would always see Thomas working, an old fashioned farmer."
Funeral and Family
Thomas Olverson's funeral was held at St Catharine's Church in Scarisbrick, attended by his wife, son, and a police officer. The family had lived on the farm for much of his life. The farm is located off Southport Road, a main route between Southport, Ormskirk, and Burscough.
