Seth Meyers expressed horror at a widely criticized Republican campaign ad and questioned Donald Trump's recent fixation on men's bodies during his late-night show.
The Late Night host noted "widespread bipartisan" outrage over a "despicable" new ad that has stirred controversy this week. He opened with footage of Trump at a rally, where the former president claimed Democrats would undo his achievements if they won next month's midterms.
Trump's Rally Ramblings
"All you've done is undo things!" Meyers responded, adding that "we had nice things" before Trump ruined them. Trump also claimed the midterms would occur on 31 October before "a thing called November," which Meyers likened to a book one might read to impress someone at a bar. He joked that if a person said that after being pulled over by a cop, "they wouldn't even give you a Breathalyser."
Trump has been campaigning in deep red states but has been "unravelling" onstage, rambling about not winning the Nobel peace prize while forgetting its name and calling it the Pulitzer. "What other awards does this guy think he deserves?" Meyers asked, joking he would expect a Tony as "I know so many Tonys."
Fixation on Men's Physiques
On Wednesday, Trump was "misfiring a lot" and made a bizarre sound that was "less like a president and more like a bullfrog." Meyers played a montage of Trump describing men's bodies, highlighting a "bizarre fixation on men's physiques." "The only issue he has left to campaign on is me likey what I see," Meyers added.
Meyers said Trump "sounds like a blindfolded bachelorette at a strip club" but has "always valued surface over substance … he just knows marketing." Repeated references to men's asses led Meyers to ask: "Why are you so weird?"
"No one cares if you can bounce a quarter off Jon Husted's ass because thanks to inflation that quarter is worthless," Meyers joked, adding that Trump sounds like "Samantha when she's dating a new male model," referencing the Sex and the City character. Yet with Texas candidate Ken Paxton, Trump has been "far less glowing."
Controversial Ohio Ad
The Republicans are getting "desperate," Meyers said, pointing to Ohio candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, the "annoying tech billionaire that even Republicans hated when he ran in 2024." In his campaign for Ohio governor, Ramaswamy has been running "one of the slimiest and most disgusting ads in the history of politics," which uses the estranged mother of his opponent to claim she was lying about being sexually assaulted as a child.
"Have you ever seen a more insufferable prick in your life?" Meyers asked, adding that the ad is "so clearly over the line" that even Republicans have been speaking out. Instead, JD Vance has been attacking Republicans who called the ad out. "Is there no soul behind all that eyeliner?" Meyers asked.
Meyers added that the vice-president "revels in being an asshole but being an asshole has a cost."
