Ruth Langsford fought back tears on Monday's Loose Women as she addressed viewers following the death of her beloved dog Maggie. The presenter paused mid-broadcast to thank fans for their condolences after revealing the news on social media last week.
During the October 19 episode, Langsford became emotional as she discussed her loss, with fellow panellists Janet Street Porter, Kelly Brook and Jane Moore offering support. She noted that she had only mentioned Maggie on the programme the previous day, and disclosed that was the same day they lost her.
Emotional Tribute to Maggie
Speaking directly to the camera, Langsford thanked everyone for their messages, saying she was 'working my way through to say thank you'. She explained that when she arrived home, a relative told her Maggie was unwell and had not left her bed, at which point she realised it was her time. She added: "It was sad but it was peaceful."
Langsford also revealed her belief that Maggie had waited until one of her children was present before passing. She admitted that years ago, before becoming a dog owner, she would have 'internally rolled her eyes' at someone who reacted tearfully to losing a pet, but now fully appreciated how 'heartbreaking' it truly was.
Fans Show Support
Viewers were quick to express their sympathy on social media. One wrote: "Oh Ruth. You gave your beautiful Maggie a very happy life." Another responded: "We can so understand Ruth. Much love xxx."
Langsford also disclosed that she had not told her mother about Maggie's passing, owing to her mother's battle with Alzheimer's.
Instagram Announcement
Earlier, Langsford shared on Instagram: "It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our beautiful Maggie has gone to sleep forever. She was 16 years old and sadly this was her time. Her passing was painless and peaceful and we were with her until the very end. We are so thankful to have had her in our lives for 15 years.....she gave us so much joy and unconditional love. We will treasure our memories forever. Rest in peace our beautiful girl."
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV from 12:30pm.
